Burning is not allowed without a burn permit. To obtain a burn permit, you should call Coos Forest Protective Association office in Gold Beach at (541) 247-6241. Burn permits are required for two reasons. First, they alert the fire services that you will be burning. Second, a burn permit gives you certain guidelines and safety rules that you must follow to burn safely. Burn permits are generally not granted during fire season. Coos Forest Protective Association sets the rules for 1.5 million acres of land, including the areas by Sixes River Fire. Sixes is part of the CS-1 district, which stretches south just past Port Orford and north past Reedsport. Gold Beach is part of the CS-4 district. During fire season, there are Public and Industrial Fire Restrictions. Public use restrictions apply to all non-industrial and recreational forest users. Industrial restrictions apply to industrial forest operators, such as logging companies and mills.
